Land Acknowledgment
I would like to acknowledge that I am a guest living on the traditional and unceded territory of the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc, the place known today as Kamloops. I am grateful for the privilege of being able to live, learn, and pursue my education here. The name Tk’əmlúps means “where the rivers meet.” I see the meeting of the North and South Thompson Rivers as a symbol of learning: different perspectives coming together, connecting, and moving forward. I recognise that this has been a place of teaching, connection, and sustenance for the Secwépemc people since time immemorial.
Kukwstsétsemc (thank you). I am thankful for the opportunity to be here, and I commit to ongoing learning, meaningful relationship-building, and acting with respect, reciprocity, and responsibility toward this land and all living things that call it home.
Meet Erin
Hello, I’m Erin!
Originally from Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, I am currently completing my Bachelor of Education (Secondary) at Thompson Rivers University. I previously earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Victoria with a double major in Geography and Indigenous Studies. I also have a passion for lifelong learning and continue to pursue coursework in French through Université Laval in Québec City.
I have a passion for language, art, and culture and am grateful for the opportunities I have had to travel and learn from different communities, from Tuktoyaktuk to destinations around the world. Travelling has helped me gain a greater appreciation of different perspectives and has challenged me to step outside my comfort zone, build lasting friendships, and develop adaptability and confidence.
Outside of school, I enjoy exploring my community through music and cultural events, local sporting events, and weekend visits to thrift stores, garage sales, and farmers markets to find a hidden treasure. At home, you’ll usually find me curled up on the couch with my cat, Dusty, a cup of coffee, and enjoying a favourite show like The Simpsons.
